A little about my vision

I worked with children and families for thirteen years before making the decision to set up My Playful World. My experiences at work and having my own children, helped me to appreciate the importance of play for everyone. When envisaging My Playful World, I knew I wanted it to be a really special and immersive space that children loved coming to visit. I wanted it to really capture their imaginations, be fun and exciting whilst still feel homely and welcoming.

As well as the opportunities for children, I wanted this space to have something for parents. My Playful World indulges parents as well as children with the relaxing design aesthetic, the comfortable café area, great coffee and tasty home-made bakes…all to be enjoyed with friends.

I hope that parents will choose to visit time and time again, and not just because their children are insisting on coming!

Sustainability

Sustainability is important to me. My family and I work hard at home to reduce, reuse and recycle; I wanted to carry this ethos over into my business.

When you come to visit us, you’ll notice that we have very few plastic toys. Many of the toys and activities have been sourced from smaller companies or those using FSC certified wood. We also have some of the favourite toys from the play centre available, here to buy. Brands at the playcentre include Le Toy Van, Little Dutch, Kidly, Kid’s Concept, Bigjigs Toys, Plan Toys, Vertbaudet, Jabadabado and Janod.

In the café everything is freshly prepared to order. We use organic produce as much we can; not just because it’s good for our own health but also because organic is better for the environment. The coffee beans and the milk we use are organic – bringing you the perfect, eco-friendly latte!

As a small business, it’s important for us to support other small businesses and new ventures so at My Playful World we stock locally made children’s hair accessories from Iddy Biddy Bows. Some of our food and cleaning products are also from Mother Earth eco refill store in Mansfield.

We have a pin board in the lobby to celebrate small, local businesses. Feel free to bring your company card and pin it up to share!

The Importance of Play

Registered charity, Play England tells us that play is an essential part of every child’s life and is vital for the enjoyment of childhood as well as social, emotional, intellectual and physical development. When children are asked about what is important in their lives, playing and friends are usually at the top of the list.

Children’s access to good play provision can:

  • increase their self-awareness, self-esteem, and self-respect
  • improve and maintain their physical and mental health
  • give them the opportunity to mix with other children
  • allow them to increase their confidence through developing new skills
  • promote their imagination, independence and creativity
  • offer opportunities for children of all abilities and backgrounds to play together
  • provide opportunities for developing social skills and learning
  • build resilience through risk taking and challenge, problem solving, and dealing with new and novel situations
  • provide opportunities to learn about their environment and the wider community.

Here at My Playful World, we have created a place where children can do all of these things, in an exciting, fun and stimulating environment.
